Sunset Shoot

Sometimes, it pays to loosen up and have fun.

I had been planning to shoot with Sarah for a little while, and on Wednesday we decided to meet outside the World Financial Center in New York City. The sun was going down and for lighting I'd packed just a single SB-800 flash, one lightstand and some gels. But that was all we needed.

As the sun was going down, I put an orange gel on the flash to give it the look of the sun. Later, when it was dark, Sarah noticed the path was lit with blue lights. So, I put a blue gel on the flash and kept shooting.

By the time we were done, we'd made some neat images. The key was to go with the flow and shoot whatever the environment presented. You can view the whole set on my Flickr page.

sunset in lower manhattan

I took some HDR shots yesterday at sunset from lower Manhattan looking across the Hudson. Each is built from 5 exposures made with my Nikon D300 and Sigma 10-20mm lens.

Hope you like them.
